A suspect is in custody and charges are pending after an overnight home invasion in State College, according to borough police.

Officers responded at about 2 a.m. Friday to a home on Crabapple Drive and determined that the residents fought off the intruder, police wrote in a statement.

With assistance from Ferguson and Patton township police, the suspect was found several blocks away at about 2:30 a.m. and taken into custody.

A court docket on Friday afternoon showed pending charges against a 25-year-old man for attempted robbery, burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault, criminal mischief and loitering and prowling at night. The man had not yet been arraigned as of 4 p.m., and District Judge Casey McClain’s office said a criminal complaint was not yet available for release.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the State College police department at (814) 234-7150, by email at police@statecollegepa.us or by submitting an anonymous tip online.

State College Area School District wrote in a message to families that a police incident occurred early Friday morning “away from the State High campus in the Greentree neighborhood.” The district said it was informed by police that “the issue has been resolved and it never had anything to do with our campus, students, faculty or staff.” All district schools operated on normal schedules.
